These are other procedures performed in our office althouth it is not an exhaustive list by any means. Canine Exposure A canine exposure is performed if one has a tooth that is covered completely by his/her gum and needs to be uncovered. This is usually performed when a tooth does not erupt into the mouth properly and one is undergoing orthodontic treatment (braces) to bring the tooth into position. During the procedure, a small amount of gum tissue is removed and the area is allowed to heal. Once the area heals, the tooth can then be moved into its proper position.
Guided Tissue Regeneration As the name states, this is a procedure that can be performed to attempt to get bone and gum to grow back around the teeth in areas where periodontal disease has destroyed the gum and bone in the past. It is usually performed if someone has one or two isolated areas of deep bone loss. However, if someone has bone loss around all of the teeth, osseous recontouring is usually a better option for treatment than guided tissue regeneration. Your periodontist would need to determine which treatment is best for your specific case. Tooth Extraction A Tooth extraction is a procedure in which the entire tooth (crown and root) is removed from the mouth, either due to decay or periodontal disease. Once a tooth is removed, it can be replaced with a variety of methods including a dental implant.
IV/Oral Sedation IV or oral sedation is used when one is nervous about a procedure to help calm a person. Sedation can be used along with any procedure performed in our office if a patient so desires. Aaron B. Carner, DMD, LLCMonday - ThursdaySome Fridays. Call for more info.
